Monday 15th March| 2009 South Korean LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year Shin Ae Ahn came down to the Bann Lynch Golf school in Melbourne earlier this year to take her game to the next level and start competing on the world stage. It appears she is headed in the right direction after a solid showing at the 2010 Handa Women’s Australian Open.

A big thanks to Pure Golf Blog for the following content:

Shin Ae finished T12th at +2 for the week after rounds of 78, 70, 75 and 71 at the par 73 Commonwealth GC layout. Playing in windy Melbourne conditions on sand belt golf courses such as Commonwealth pust a premium on being able to control your ball flight, and that was the focus of Shin Ae’s practice session with coach Steve Bann prior to the tournament.

She made the cut at the ANZ Ladies Masters in Queensland the previous week, however she finished well behind the winner Karrie Webb, and was not happy with the way she was hitting the golf ball in the wind.

Below you will find the latest installment of our Fly on the Wall video series. What you will see in the following video is how she discussed this problem with Steve Bann and how they worked to help her control the trajectory of her golf shots by simply adjusting her setup. She was making the mistake of putting the ball back in her stance and then trying to force the ball low with a change in her golf swing. This was causing her a few problems in controlling her distance.

Steve got her to get back to simplifying the process by simply allowing an adjustment in ball position to change the trajectory while using her normal golf swing. The result was that she averaged nearly 70% in greens in regulation for the week which went a long way towards helping her get a top-12 finish.

You will also see how a Tour Pro works out how far they hit a club by calculating carry distance + roll distance. In this case, the hybrid Shin Ae is hitting usually carries 148-150 yards for her, while for this week, as her caddy points out, they were expecting to get about 5-7 meters of roll with that club once the ball lands on the green. So this club would be perfect for a total distance of about 157 to the flag.

Alright, enough talk…time for you to see the action. Enjoy being a fly on the wall!

Welcome to the latest episode of our Fly on the Wall Series, where we eavesdrop on PGA Tour coach Steve Bann as he works with some of his professional clients.

In this episode, Steve is working with LPGA Tour player Hee Young Park on her pitching and chipping. Steve is working to help simplify Hee Young’s technique so she can “free it up” and just concentrate on where she wants to land the golf ball. This is a money shot- having a good pitching game will help you make a bunch of birdies on par 5’s and short par 4’s while also helping you save par on long par 4’s or when you get into trouble off the tee. Enjoy!:

We would like to thank Pure Golf Blog for the following content:

At Pure Golf Training, we are always trying to find new ways to bring you golf training information. We understand that not everyone has the opportunity to train with a PGA Tour coach, and that is why we took the opportunity to film Steve Bann coaching some very talented young Korean golfers at his academy in Melbourne.

Over the next few days, we will bring you a number of free videos through which you can be a fly on the wall as Bann teaches his players a number of different skills including putting, short game, long iron shots, swing plane and much much more.

Now this is all unscripted and put together with minimum fuss- we won’t be winning any filming awards any time soon but we’re sure you will pick up some great tips for your own game and enjoy the experience of watching a master at work. It’s the next best thing to being there!

Let’s start with the first video. In this video Steve is teaching Korean LPGA Tour player how to make the correct transition from the top of the backswing. This move sets up the sequencing of the body and helps drop the club on plane halfway down while also helping the golfer generate maximum power through the golf ball. Basically, it’s an awesome drill!

Do you want to get your kids into golf but aren’t quite sure where to begin? Or perhaps you’re new to the game yourself and are looking for a good place to start. There is enough instruction around on golf to make you go nuts even before you pick up a golf club! However, luckily for you, we’ve found a great resource which will help you get started on the right track. And best of all…its free!

My First Golf Book Online is a great website developed by world renowned PGA Professional Steve Bann, who coaches PGA Tour stars such as Stuart Appleby and KJ Choi.

The website covers all parts of the game, starting with an introduction to the basics of the game, a section on safety and the rules of the game, and then gets into some basic lessons about technique and the fundamentals of the game.

The website is a great place to get started with the game and has some nice illustrations to go along with the written content to make it fun for the kids to read as well. Give it a go this summer!

All golfers around the world, no matter what level of skill they possess, have one thing in common: they want to get better. Most club level golfers share this desire for improvement- however they often don’t feel like they have the time to dedicate to a process that will help them achieve sustainable improvement in their golf games. So they try and find quick fixes in golf magazines, tips on tv or even worse, expert analysis from their fellow high handicapper friends.
However this game has a knack of biting you on the backside if you try and look for shortcuts. A “band-aid” remedy for your golf swing that works today might not work tomorrow and you will be back at square one, with a heavier heart and a lighter wallet. Often times you might find two different tips in the same magazine issue that completely contradict each other!
Another shortcoming that most golfers suffer from is an obsession with golf technique. We don’t mean to suggest for a moment that having the correct technique isn’t important. It is a fundamental component of our golf training program. However, good technique alone does not make a complete golfer.
So what is a golfer to do if they want to break out of this negative cycle?
We suggest you make a paradigm shift in the way you approach improvement in your golf game. We suggest you take what we call a “holistic approach” to golf training. What do we mean by holistic?
Holistic means we acquaint ourselves with The Four Training Factors of Golf, i.e. the Technical, Physical, Mental and Strategic golf training factors.
Why cover all four training factors?
We learned from our experience working alongside various sports programs at the Victorian Institute of Sport in Australia, programs that included Olympic sports, that in order to produce complete athletes and not just technicians, we had to pay attention to all the factors that would facilitate their growth.

Stuart Appleby training session at BannLynch Golf (25th September 2009)

Stuart Appleby came down to BannLynch Golf last week to work on his game with his longtime coach Steve Bann, before heading off to the U.S to play in the Fall Series on the PGA Tour.

It has been a tough year for Stuart on Tour with his best finish a tie for 8th at the Transitions Championship. However, having spent some time back in Australia, ‘Apples’ is raring to get back out there and make a strong push towards the end of the year to set himself up well for next season. Another goal for Appleby is to get a win under his belt so that he can make it into the SBS Championship in Kapalua (formerly known as the Mercedes Championship) which is limited to winners on the PGA Tour. He is a 3 time former winner of that tournament and it is sure to be a huge motivating factor for him as he heads back stateside.

Go ahead and enjoy watching one of the purest swings in all of golf. You will get to see all the work that goes in behind the scenes as a dedicated professional prepares himself for the toughest Tour in the world.

Stuart has been working with his coach Steve Bann since he was a junior golfer. In this session they were working on Stuart’s leg action, a good full upper body turn and a slightly lower position of the left shoulder through the ball.

Aaron Baddeley has announced that he will once again be working with his childhood coach Dale Lynch.

Speaking on the eve of the Arnold Palmer Invitiational, Baddeley said: “I’m really excited to start working with Dale again and I feel he can take us where I want to go, to win major championships”.

Baddeley is keen to live up to the potential he displayed in a stellar amateur career and as a young professional. He has had mixed results over the last few years with 2 US PGA Tour wins, a win in Australia and starting the final round of the US Open in the lead two years ago being the few highlights.

Of late, driving accuracy and greens in regulation have been an area of concern for the two time Australian Open champion.

“I haven’t quite seen the results I wanted,” he said.

“The past year has been a little inconsistent. I thought I was making good progress but there were a couple of things in the swing that weren’t clicking, so I went and saw Dale for a second opinion.

I liked what he said, talking about golf in general. That’s when I decided to make the switch back.”

Dale Lynch, who of course also coaches Australian Number 1 and World Number 4 ranked golfer Geoff Ogilvy said he was delighted to recommence his working relationship with Baddeley:

“Realistically, Aaron has more than enough talent to win a major and beyond” he said.

“He’s at least as talented as Geoff. At the moment his (poor)driving accuracy and (low percentage of)greens in regulation, theres the issue right there”.

Baddeley is a graduate of the VIS Training Program which was developed by Steve Bann and Dale Lynch.

Over 8000 students have now taken the free golf lesson and have received a 5 page report, from Steve, which analyses their game in every detail.

Judging be some of the comments we know that many of you were a little “spooked” by just how accurately the report described your game. Here is one of many emails we received:

Steve,

Yes thanks I have received my Analysis, it is as if you have seen me play or coached me before. Everything you have said is so true. I’m on a roster that doesn’t let me play in too many comps but I do get time to practice. I’ve obviously had a couple of lessons and i’m practising those techniques now. I had my best round the other month, having 3 over (1 over the front & 2 over the back so it is working.

Regards Rick

If you haven’t had your free analysis yet then get onto it straight away at Free Golf Lesson Online

Steve,
thanks for the analysis. there were a few points that will help me improve my game.
i’ve only just bought a set of clubs and have not played any golf for some 15 years. it’s good exercise and even more enjoyable when you actually hit the ball in the right direction. so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Steve for your feedback & my ‘golf analysis, which makes very interesting reading! I will print it out & keep to refer to when going to range, practice rounds & rounds.
I was given your “Simply Golf ~ Back to Basics” book & Dvd for Xmas, have read the book & watched dvd and thus have now ordered your xclusive PGA Teaching Dvds and AM SURE that they will prove as helpful and fullfilling as your other material.
I find your writing extremly easy to follow & understand, SO HOPEFULLY will be able to relate it all to my game!(That I love!)
Thanks heaps
and look forward to your next work

Hi Steve, thanks for the analysis I feel it will be a great help for me to improve. I purchased your (simply golf back to basics) and found it most helpful. Do you have any lessons or videos on playing a draw etc and the ball position for same. I have no trouble slicing or hitting a fade, but have great difficulty trying to play a draw. Regards Frank maguire.

Hi Steve,
thank’s for my analysis, I think this is going to be a huge help for my golfing game. I play with low marker’s every weekend ( 2-10) and I’m the only 18+ marker in the group, these guy’s are astonished at how hard and pure I hit the ball,(4 iron form 200 metre’s) I get called a burglar ALOT but around the green’s I’m crap, it’s not that I don’t know how to hit a chip or a putt, it’s just that I don’t enjoy practicing that, is there a way I can make this fun?
